No Matter which areas of the industry you choose to work in upon
the completion of your course, you will need to have a pleasant
personality, be confident in dealing with people, and possess
dedication, flexibility, flair and creativity. You will also need to be a
lateral and progressive thinker and show an acceptance of various
cultural and ethnic groups within the hospitality industry and the
society at large. You will need to shoulder social responsibility towards
individuals, social groups in general and to the needs of the others
within the industry. You should have the ability to undertake a diverse
range of tasks in an appreciative and technically competent manner.
Willingness to Serve
This is one of the basic requirements and also the most important. Are you
type who would go out of your way to make people happy? Even though
they may be total strangers?
The doctrine of IHM is “Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve, and Serve
with Pleasure, one and all”.
Regardless of what branch of the hospitality field you choose, you have
got to SERVE and that too WITH A SMILE. You may dislike the person or
the fact that you have to serve him/her. But you have got to go through
with it. Most importantly after you have given your best, don’t expect
appreciation from the guest.
If it comes your way, it is a bonus.
